spielzeit’europa, the Berliner Festspiele’s theatre season, presented an open-air theatre spectacle in October 2009 in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Little Giantess and the Big Giant, created by the legendary French street theatre company Royal de Luxe, amazed and astonished Berlin’s people and visitors and resurrected this moment in world history and the overwhelming emotions of 1989. The giant puppets, which measure up to 15 metres in height, passed by significant Berlin sites – such as Unter den Linden, Straße des 17. Juni, Brandenburger Tor – and told out a fairy tale about a reunion after years of separation. As last seen in London (2006) and Santiago de Chile (2007), Royal de Luxe moved and wowed millions of people in the German capital.
